The Galaxy S23 Ultra has firmly established itself as one of this year’s top gaming smartphones, surpassing even the recently launched iPhone 15 Pro Max in graphics tests. This remarkable performance can be attributed to the potent Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy processor and a substantial vapor chamber for cooling. Excitingly, it appears that the upcoming Galaxy S24 Ultra is poised to elevate the gaming experience even further.

Rumors suggest that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will exclusively feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 For Galaxy processor. In a recent Geekbench 6 GPU compute test (Vulkan), the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scored an impressive 15,000+ points, marking a substantial 60% increase compared to the GPU score (9,000 points) achieved by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the same test. While Geekbench’s GPU compute score serves as an indicator rather than an absolute benchmark, it underscores the substantial leap in performance potential when compared to similar chips.

Leaked specifications for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 paint a compelling picture. This 4nm octa-core chip, produced by TSMC, comprises one ARM Cortex-X4 CPU core, five ARM Cortex-A720 CPU cores, and two Cortex-A520 CPU cores. It also boasts the Adreno 750 GPU with hardware ray-tracing acceleration. Earlier reports have suggested that this new Qualcomm chip could deliver a remarkable 50% boost in GPU performance over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Samsung’s experience with the Galaxy S23 series, which featured a sizable vapor chamber for efficient heat dissipation, is likely to inform further advancements in the Galaxy S24 series. These improvements aim to sustain high-level performance during extended gaming sessions.

The question remains regarding how the Exynos 2400 chip, an alternative to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, will measure up. Any issues related to overheating or significant performance disparities with the Exynos chip could impact Samsung’s reputation. As we anticipate the Galaxy S24 series, it’s clear that mobile gaming enthusiasts have much to look forward to.
