Samsung has unveiled its new portable SSD, the SSD T9, as a successor to the already popular SSD T7. This external SSD offers faster data transfer speeds, a fresh design, and an expanded range of storage capacities.

The SSD T9 boasts improved connectivity through the USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface, delivering sequential read and write speeds of up to 2,000 MB/s. This is twice as fast as the SSD T7, which featured the USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface for 1,000MB/s transfer speeds. The SSD T9 is available in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities and features the Dynamic Thermal Guard system to maintain consistent data transfer speeds while preventing overheating.

In terms of design, the SSD T9 is approximately the size of a credit card and offers a fabric-like texture with curved diagonal lines and reverse carbon patterns on the surface. It’s drop-resistant up to three meters and includes a five-year warranty.

The Samsung Magician Software 8.0 that accompanies the SSD T9 provides performance benchmarks, enhanced security features, firmware updates, and real-time SSD health status checks. The drive features AES 256-bit hardware encryption and is compatible with Android, macOS, and Windows, with potential compatibility with iOS, iPadOS, and Linux.

Pricing for the SSD T9 starts at $139.99 for the 1TB version, $239.99 for the 2TB version, and $439.99 for the 4TB version. It will be available worldwide starting October 3, 2023, in a sleek black color. The SSD comes with both USB Type-A to USB Type-C and USB Type-C to USB Type-C cables.

Hangu Sohn, Vice President of Memory Brand Product Biz Team at Samsung Electronics, emphasized the SSD T9’s ability to address the data transfer needs of professionals dealing with high-resolution photos and 4K videos, enabling them to focus on their creative endeavors.
